Drivers' Ed

Reflection on Life

When I was in high school a short time ago, we were given a driver’s manual that illustrated the various parts of a car and their functions. We had to study this guide and basically memorize it in order to pass the written test. This written test, if passed, earned us legal standing (sitting) in the driver’s seat with a drivers' permit as proof. Someone posted on social media about looking back on life and overcoming the bad in their life. I started to think about my journey and I thought; "Wouldn't it be great if a driver’s manual of life was provided to us so that we'd know how to navigate through life?" Life is like being in driver’s seat of a moving vehicle. I imagine this would be some of the highlighted points: Rear view mirror is for looking back over your life. When you look in the mirror at what is behind you, you’re looking at your past. It is important not to stare into it for too long because you are liable to get off course (distracted), miss your exit (calling), or even get into an accident. It is important to look forward and only glance up at the mirror to learn from our mistakes. The rear view mirror is also used to move into the passing lane. The Passing Lane is used to pass by those things in life that trip us up and cause us to crash. These are things like distractions, fear, doubt, old habits, jealousy, backbiting, gluttony, etc. When passing these things, remember to signal. Signaling is your praise and worship; letting those know you serve an almighty God while thanking God for getting you through the traffic in one piece. The windshield is for looking ahead; focusing on the the destination (Jeremiah 29:11) also known as your purpose. While driving down the highways and byways of life, you also have to be aware of the traffic signals. There are three signals we learn about in the manual that we have that are important. There is the RED signal which means STOP. This is GOD's way of saying “Be still, and know that I am God (Psalms 46:10). God wants you to TRUST Him. The Amber signal is God's way of saying wait on Him. It’s about being patient and not leaning on our own understanding (Proverbs 3:5-6). The GREEN signal means not to worry about anything because God will supply your every need (Philippians 4:6-7). Along the way, you will notice there are also speed limit, caution, stop, and yield signs posted. When you see these...OBEY THEM! They represent the Holy Spirit who was sent to guide you (John 14:26). When driving down the highway of life, It is important to obey all traffic signals and laws so that you can get to where you need to go in one piece. No need to speed because your destination (victory) has been promised (1 Corinthians 15:57). It's best to enjoy the journey and the scenery along the way and don't worry about the time you will arrive as planned (Ecclesiastes 3:1). Realistically, we already have a manual which we should meditate on day and night. Referred to as the "Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth" more popularly known as the "Bible". It is God’s word and contains all of the instructions we need for this life's journal. Anything we go through and any answer we seek can be found in the Good Book.
